Sarah Edge has been working in Optical practices since 1978. She qualified as a Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens Optician in 1981 and has lived near Eccleshall for over 35 years. Sarah has brought up 3 children while continuing to work as a Dispensing Optician. She has an interest in Low Vision Aids. In her spare time Sarah enjoys tennis, gardening and walking her dog. She has recently discovered an interest in foreign travel. She and Jan Goodwin have been directors of Mincher-Lockett Opticians with practices in Stafford and Gnosall since 2006.

Jan Goodwin studied for a degree in Ophthalmic Optics at Aston University from 1985 to 1998 and passed British College of Optometrists professional exams to qualify as an Optometrist in 1989. Since then she has worked in both independent and high street optical practices before setting up in business with Sarah Edge in 2006. She has two grown-up children and has a particular interest in helping children and adults with specific reading difficulties. Jan also enjoys travelling both in the U.K. and abroad, keeping fit, cooking and archery. She was a keen member of Stafford Ladies Circle for many years and has been secretary of Stafford Archers until injury forced her to stop shooting.

Our Optometrists are Kate Jackson, Chi Choi and Ian Ferguson. Kate and Chi have been with Malcolm Gray and Associates since 1988 and 2005 respectively and Ian joined us in 2016. All are experienced Optometrists who keep up-to-date with new developments in the world of eye care through regular training.

Kate Jackson started at the practice as work-experience while still at school. She went on to study for a degree in Optometry at Aston University graduating in 1992 and returned to complete her professional training under Malcolm Gray's supervision. She has been working at the practice ever since, although now works part-time while bringing up her two sons. Kate lives near Market Drayton where she keeps a few sheep and enjoys spending time with her family, playing tennis and doing pilates. She also loves holidaying in Devon.

Chi Choi joined Malcolm Gray & Associates in 2005. He was brought up in Hull but now lives near Alsager and has 2 children. Chi qualified as an Optometrist in 1993 after completing his degree at Aston University. It was a second career for him as he had previously worked in IT. When not working Chi enjoys foreign travel and keeping fit with badminton and swimming. He support Crewe Alexander FC.

Ian Ferguson is the newest addition to our Optometry team having joined in 2016. He also qualified in 1993 after studying at Aston University with Chi. Ian was born in Walsall where he still lives. He is married to a Dispensing Optician and has 2 daughters and a Bolognese dog. He is interested in film and music and supports Liverpool FC. Ian has previously worked in both high street practices and for a domiciliary service. He is quickly gaining a reputation for both his friendly manner and his taste in interesting socks!

Our Reception and Clinical Assistant staff are Kate Kennett, Louise Powell and Vicky Strophair. They are always happy to help you and deal with any queries you have.

Kate Kennett lives in Stafford with her husband and 2 children. She started working at the practice in April 2011 and qualified as a diabetic retinal screening photographer in 2015. Kate works 3 days per week and combines family duties with keeping fit and following Aston Villa. Kate is a contact lens wearer and also likes to keep up to date with the latest fashion in spectacle frames.

Louise Powell has always lived in the Eccleshall area. She joined the practice in 2007 and now works 2-3 days per week. Louse qualified as a diabetic retinal screening photographer in 2015. She has 4 sons and who keep her very busy, but when time allows she enjoys walking in the local countryside.

Emma Hall joined us in 2017 having come here for her very first examination at age 3 and got her first ever pair of spectacles from here. She lives in Chebsey and is a keen player with Stone Ladies Hockey Club. Emma is really enjoying being part of our team particularly the variety of the work and learning new skills.

Vicky Strophair joined the business in 2015 as maternity cover in but quickly made herself indispensable. She works in our two Mincher-Lockett Opticians practices in Stafford and Gnosall as well as at Malcolm Gray in Eccleshall. Vicky enjoys working with our clients, helping to choose frames and assemble and fit spectacles as well as dealing with administration and answering queries. She is studying for a qualification as an Optical Clinical Assistant. Vicky enjoys swimming, walking on Cannock Chase and spending time with her family.
